40 rivers tour report - part 1. Our first gathering was at Evritania perfecture, at the rivers around Karpenissi. With friends from Germany and Austria, we started our paddling protest, on April 8, at Trikeriotis river, a river threatened by at least three dams. A multi-ethnic fleet of 14 kayaks, 1 2-person HotDog and 1 8-person raft, ran the beautiful river, to end just before the big artificial lake of Kremasta dam. Read More
Changes in our 40 rivers tour. Due to less than favourable water in Erymanthos and Selinountas, but also due to coordination problems, we will alternate the first two RV points of Tripotama and Karpenissi.
New meeting points will be: Karpenissi area (7-12 April) We may run Karpenisiotis, Trikeriotis, Krikelopotamos and possibly Agrafiotis, Evinos, Fidakia. The second meeting will be held in Karytaina (Lousios river) Atsicholos bridge on 14th of April and at Tripotama on 15th. Here is the updated plan:

Save the Greek Rivers Paddling Tour. April - May 2007
Here is a proposition-schedule for all paddlers visiting Greece this spring. A six-weeks tour schedule of the best whitewater. Each week the action moves from one area to the next, starting from Peloponessos in the South and ending to Epirus in northwestern Greece. The idea is to cover most Greek rivers, but most important, to set some rendez-vous dates where all the groups may get together for a couple of days, have some fun and protest against the hydroelectric works that threaten many of our rivers. Online Petition. Save 40 of the best rivers in Greece. Many wild rivers of Greece, among the last unspoiled, biodiversity rich and most beautiful landscapes of Europe. They are now threatened by a series of small hydroelectric power stations. 250 building permits have already been allowed by November 2006, and 150 more applications are on their way. Some of the best nature and unique rivers are about to become construction sites, among them nearly all of Greece΄s paddelable whitewater. Don't allow the destruction of environment... in the name of environment! Sign the petition here

2nd annual Upper Lousios Race. November 19th 2006. TEAMadara and friends, got together last weekend, for the 2nd annual river race of Upper Lousios. Even some of last year's "key" players were not able to attend - one of them managed to escape in South America (this is what we call "running scared") - we kept our engagement and entered the race. River Friends News: Hydroelectric works invasion in Greece.
Greece is the only european country without land development project. This is the main reason why 250 small hydroelectric projects have already get a license and 150 more are waiting next in line. Almost every stream, creek or bigger river of Greece has a couple of pocket-power plants reservations for the near future. 40 of them are placed in runnable rivers and creeks, threating to end river running activities and change the nature of the area for ever. November 14th. Let us try to save Erymanthos. Since more than 20 years boaters from every corner of Europe paddle the Erymanthos. They hold it for one of the 8 most beautiful rivers of Greece. Everybody would appreciate, if the Greek authorities should turn the Erymanthos into a National Park (along with such other wonders of nature like the Acheron, Krikellopotamos, Kallaritikos-Arachthos, upper Mornos, Lousios-Alfios, Selinous and the Mileapotamos). April 22nd. Paddling week. We are leaving for our weekly paddling tour of Pindos rivers. If you 'll be in the north west from 24th of April until the end of the month we will be glad to see you and do some paddling together.
April 3d. Upper Evinos. Evinos is a special river for us - the river where most of us learned how to paddle, a river that we feel like home - a river that we enjoy coming back again and again, every year. Even though we keep coming back so often, we had never decided to make the extra travel to reach the upper part of the river, over the dam and the lake that collects the clear water to send it home to Athens. April 9th. Selinountas river. After many weeks of high flows, that followed this year's early and fast snow melting, Selinountas reached the favourable middle level limit in the second week of April. This year, we decided to put in on its east fork, a stream called Maneseiko. More >>>
Curious of what was going on in TEAMadara these last months?
March 12th. Kayak surfing. Decided to take my chances in the waves of Vouliagmeni beach, Greek surfers favourite spot in Athens. Being the only kayaker between 25 surfers, wasn't that smart but what the h#$%. More >>>

March 5th. Krikelopotamos. In a short break of the winter's bad weather, we had a great day running Krikelopotamos, one of the most beautiful and radical rivers in Greece. More >>>
River Friends. TEAMadara, introduces River Friends. A web based observation post, monitoring all river threats, trying to show the beautiful image of the still virgin, river environment and promote a more gentle development. We host news and articles about river pollution, dam threats and general river environmental issues. Find out more about Greek River Friends and help us save some rivers from the "death list"
River running in Mornos and Inahos in central Greece, or playboating in Alfios in Peloponessos, together with some creeking in Upper Loussios, is where you usually find us...until we end up in some cossy litlle tavern for some delicious lamb chops. (This text is very old! - Inachos is dammed and no more lamb chops for me - I' m on a diet! )
But when the snow starts melting in April, or after a rainy winter day, the no-eddy runs of Erymanthos, or the tight Upper Mornos gorge, are more likely the places we choose! Until it's time to go further north, into Epirus big water of Arachthos and the remote gorge of Aoos, beneath the great Tymfi range.
Stay with us, as we paddle along the Greek rivers, read our trip reports and stories. Become a part of our on-line community. Whether you 'd like to share your adventures with us, send or seek info about water levels, river maps with GPS coordinates, shuttle details, or even better arrange a river RV with us, feel free to communicate. We 'll be glad to help you and welcome you here in Greece.
Paddle hard, paddle smart and paddle safely and most of all look around and enjoy the moment.
See you out there! Nikos.

TEAMadara is a group of kayakers, based in Athens, but you can find them paddling all over Greece.
